1	Insert disk 1 into the appropriate drive.
2	Start the installation process:
		Windows users  Open Windows, choose Run from the File menu and type:
		A:SETUP. Choose OK.						
		DOS users  Type A:INSTALL at the DOS prompt.
		Macintosh users  Double-click the Installer icon.
3	Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen.
		Full installation is recommended.


1	Choose Open from the File menu or click the Open tool.
2	Select the infobase you wish to open.
You can select the infobase by single-clicking to highlight the infobase, then choose OK. You can also select an infobase by simply double-clicking on the name of the infobase.
1	Choose Query from the Search menu.
You can also access the Query dialog by pressing F2 on the keyboard or clicking the Query tool from the Toolbelt.
2	Do one of the following:
		a.	Type in the word you wish to search for.
		b.	Use the and, or, not, xor operators to limit or expand your search.
		c.	Scroll through the word list and select the word you wish to search for.
		d.	Click on the right bracket button to search in a highlighter, note, popup, etc.
3	Choose OK.
Links are identified in an infobase by underlined colored text. There are five types of links. The diagram below shows each type.
1	Move the mouse cursor over the link
		The cursor becomes a small hand. 
2	Double-click or press CTRL+ENTER.

The Query Template Editor allows you to create new Query dialog boxes called  templates. Query are    
 templates are intended to reduce the complexity of performing different types of queries. Templates are especially useful if you are often performing the same type of query.
VIEWS 3.1 allows you to open multiple copies of 
highlighted search hits. The Clear query command is located on the Search menu and the Toolbelt. Use this command to unclutter the screen after you find the information you need. 
VIEWS and run them simultaneously. This is useful if you are reading information in a note and want to edit the infobase. You can also open multiple copies with different .INI settings.

New
Allows you to create a shadow file from the open infobase. You can also create a new infobase from scratch.

Preferences
Allows you to enable and disable various infobase options. You can specify default units, search options, and screen display elements. 

Tag
Marks records for further action, such as printing and grouping. You can also narrow the view to only tagged records

Contents
Allows you to view the Table of Contents for the active infobase. You can return to the document window by clicking in it.

Reference
Displays primary level headings above the insertion point. You can size the reference window using the mouse or through Preferences.

Next
Advances the insertion point to the next line of query hits.

Previous
Backs up the insertion point to the previous line of query hits.

Go To
Moves the insertion point to a specific record in the infobase. You must type in the record number you wish to go to. The record number is displayed at the bottom of the document window.

Program Link
Creates a hypertext link from text or an object to another application. You should apply unique character options to easily identify  the links.

Query Link
Creates a hypertext link from text or an object to a predefined query.

Popup Links
Creates a hypertext link from text or an object to a sizable window. You should apply unique character options to easily identify the links.

Bookmark
Allows you to return to a specific place in the infobase.

Jump Destination
Allows you to create an endpoint for a jump link. This tool opens the Jump destination dialog box.

Note
Allows you to insert text in a note or view a note. Note windows are attached to paragraphs.

Backtrack
Returns you to the starting point of the most recent search.

Highlighters
Allows you to mark text with distinctive colors and/or styles. You can then search for words within a highlighter or search for each occurrence of a highlighter.

Group
Allows you to add records to a searchable group.

Query
Allows you to search the infobase(s) for terms or phrases. With the Query dialog open, you can specify the scope and enter terms.

Open
Allows you to select an infobase to open.

Clear Query
Clears the highlighted search hits from your document window.

Template selection
Allows you to use other predefined query templates.
The Contents Window is a valuable tool for quickly moving around an infobase.
 1	Choose Table of Contents from the View menu.
	Pressing CTRL+T also opens the Contents window.
 2	Double-click a plus sign() to expand a branch of the table of contents.
	Pressing + on the keyboard also expands a branch.
	If there are no  or  signs, choose Show Expandable Branches from the View menu.
 3	Double-click a minus sign() to collapse a branch of the table of contents.
	Pressing  on the keyboard also collapses a branch.
 4	Double-click a heading to jump directly to that location in the Document window.
	Pressing ENTER (or RETURN) also takes you to the heading in the infobase.
Displays the current level of headings. These levels are actual level names that are included in the infobase. The name that is displayed here depends on the heading that is currently highlighted.
This is a section heading that can be expanded.
The plus sign indicates that the heading can be expanded to show sub-levels. A minus sign indicates that the level has been fully expanded and can be collapsed.
These numbered buttons represent the depth of the display. For example, in the diagram, the third button is selected. This means that the Contents window displays headings three deep. In this case, it is the Chapter level.
Section level and subordinate chapter levels. Each Chapter level can be expanded to show it's sub-levels.
